In May 2025, Antonis Antoniou travelled to Portugal to participate in an Erasmus+ mobility hosted by Sporting Clube de Braga, one of the most respected football academies in Europe. This mobility was part of our Spatial Intelligence Enhancement Project in Sports education in the context of Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
Over an intense week in Braga, our coach experienced a structured and high-performance grassroots environment. The programme included:
- Daily coaching sessions alongside academy staff, observing and analysing the planning, structure, and delivery of training activities.
- Post-session evaluation meetings after each training session, focusing on strengths, areas for improvement, and ways to adapt exercises for different age groups.
- Performance analysis and feedback activities, examining how technology is used to monitor player progress and support athlete development.
- Collaborative discussions with coaches and academy personnel to exchange perspectives on coaching methodology, sports science integration, and long-term player development philosophy.
- Active participation in the local sports culture through attending matches and engaging with young players within community environments.
- A strategic presentation with the technical director about the healthy development of athletes and the academy’s long-term vision.

The learning outcomes were highly valuable and far-reaching. Antonis enhanced his technical coaching expertise, developed new competencies in spatial awareness training sessions, and broadened his understanding of different coaching philosophies. He also gained valuable perspectives on leadership and mentoring, while expanding his international network of professional connections.
Reflecting on the experience, he stated:
“I would like to thank SC Braga for their outstanding hospitality and for giving me the opportunity to access their facilities and collaborate with their coaching staff. This mobility experience contributed greatly to my development as a coach and provided me with valuable tools and knowledge that I can now share with my colleagues back home.”
This Erasmus+ mobility highlighted the importance of combining our spatial awareness methodologies with the innovative practices implemented by some of Europe’s leading football academies. The experience strengthened our commitment to transferring this knowledge not only within our own programmes, but also to other clubs, coaches, and young players across Cyprus.
We extend our sincere thanks to Sporting Clube de Braga for their exceptional hospitality, as well as to the Erasmus+ programme for making possible such meaningful opportunities that support grassroots football development and promote European values through sport.
